The European Federation of Management Consulting Associations (FEACO) was created in 1960 to promote and expand the management consulting profession in Europe. It has 12 national member associations. All management consultants are welcome to join a National Organisation, and while each association establishes its own requirements for consultant qualifications, FEACO has produced a list of baseline qualification criteria for membership in FEACO-federated National Associations. Let's look at the most important ones. But, first and foremost, it is vital to highlight the key areas of FEACO's activity in management consulting for which minimal qualification standards have been developed.

The following are the main areas of management consulting (www.feaco.org):
- organizational development and corporate strategy;
- administrative systems, finances, and human resources;
- production, services, logistics, R&D, quality, technology, and innovation;
- informational technologies;
- marketing;
- corporate communications;
- project management;
- research (economic, environmental, etc.).

Let us now present the basic qualification criteria, which include the following (www.feaco.org):

  1. Self-reliance. A management consulting firm should have a public practice of management consulting with official standing, be economically independent, provide competent and impartial services to its clients, and choose and grow its team without being controlled by anyone.
  2. Expertise. In order to qualitatively solve customers' problems, the consultant should be focused on management consulting, or at least one of the major areas of management consulting described above.
  3. Morality. The consultant should confirm on a regular basis, ideally once a year, that he or she is following the highest professional standards and ethics, as well as the Code of Professional Conduct and Best Practices, in his or her work.
  4. Extensive experience. A minimum of three years of public management consulting practice is required, although five years is desirable. If the consulting business is currently a member of a National Association federated to FEACO and requests for membership in another, this condition may be waived.
  5. Qualification. The management consultant must be able to demonstrate significant technical knowledge and intellectual aptitude through academic (university) or similar work and experiences in management consulting.
  6. Confirmation. The verification of a management consultant's qualifications before becoming selected as a member of the National Association, and in the case of a change with in status of the consulting company, as well as at other times established by the Association, is an essential part of membership in the National Association.
